PT-141 works in the brain rather than the bloodstream. Where ED medications improve blood flow, bremelanotide acts on melanocortin receptors involved in sexual desire itself.

DESIRE VS BLOOD FLOW

PDE5 inhibitors work below the belt. PT-141 works above the neck.

Trial data from studies of the FDA-approved product, in premenopausal women with HSDD.

HOW PT-141 WORKS

Acts on desire, not circulation.

Glucose control.

Bremelanotide is a synthetic peptide that activates melanocortin receptors, primarily MC4R, in the central nervous system. Those receptors sit in brain regions associated with sexual motivation, which is a different target from the peripheral vascular mechanism of PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil and tadalafil.

Activates melanocortin receptors

PT-141 binds MC4R in the central nervous system, a pathway associated with sexual motivation rather than blood flow.

Independent of the vascular pathway

Because it does not act on cGMP or vascular smooth muscle, it addresses a different component of sexual response than ED medications.

Used before activity, not daily

Administered ahead of anticipated activity, with dosing frequency limits set by your provider.

Nausea is the common effect

Nausea is the most frequently reported side effect in the clinical trials and is usually most noticeable with the first few doses.
