Two randomized, placebo-controlled phase 3 trials evaluated bremelanotide in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder and reported improvements in desire and reduced associated distress versus placebo.
Bremelanotide (PT-141) Injection
$249/mo*
PT-141 works in the brain rather than the bloodstream. Where ED medications improve blood flow, bremelanotide acts on melanocortin receptors involved in sexual desire itself.
PT-141 is administered before anticipated activity, with dosing frequency limits set by your provider. Nausea is the most common effect. Prescription only; dispensed after medical evaluation.

HOW PT-141 WORKS
Glucose control.
Bremelanotide is a synthetic peptide that activates melanocortin receptors, primarily MC4R, in the central nervous system. Those receptors sit in brain regions associated with sexual motivation, which is a different target from the peripheral vascular mechanism of PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil and tadalafil.
PT-141 binds MC4R in the central nervous system, a pathway associated with sexual motivation rather than blood flow.
Because it does not act on cGMP or vascular smooth muscle, it addresses a different component of sexual response than ED medications.
Administered ahead of anticipated activity, with dosing frequency limits set by your provider.
Nausea is the most frequently reported side effect in the clinical trials and is usually most noticeable with the first few doses.
